A half-century by Amarpreet Singh helped Cambridge School beat Modern Public School by four runs in the opening match of the 5th PVR Murthy Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament at the Engineering School ground in Cuttack today.
Amarpreet also claimed a wicket to be adjudged the man of the match. Stewart School will take on St Xavier School in the next match on Sunday.
Sixteen schools of Cuttack city have joined the tournament, which was earlier inaugurated by Tourism and Excise Minister Devi Prasad Mishra. Secondary Education Director Kishore Mohanty, Ravenshaw University Registrar Dr Satyakam Mishra, former Orissa Cricket Association president Dr Pravat Kumar Mishra, host Union Sporting Club president Nanda Kishore Tibarewal and secrtary Pradeep Chouhan were present in the colourful opening ceremony.
